Dressage at Devon To Focus On Capital Campaign and Dressage Education in 2012

Devon, PA (December 23, 2011) – America’s most prestigious Dressage Horse Show, Dressage at Devon has continued to grow and evolve over the past 37 years. The show has provided a top show venue for competitors, a unique “Norman Rockwell” style American shopping venue and has benefited various charities over the years. Over the past 21 years, Thorncroft Equestrian Center has been the charitable beneficiary of the Dressage at Devon horseshow. This month Thorncroft Equestrian Center opted to move in a new direction for their funding raising efforts giving Dressage at Devon an opportunity to focus on the capital campaign allocating proceeds from the show to continued improvements at the show grounds and to focus on dressage education.

A letter from the President of Dressage at Devon

Dear Dressage Enthusiast,

Dressage at Devon would like to thank you for your support over the years. We are now on the precipice of a new era for Dressage at Devon.

The beautiful “state of the art” euro-felt footing that was placed in the Dixon Oval in 2010, and then in the Gold Ring in 2011 has left us with a dilemma. The rules for footing state that our CDI horses must be able to warm up on the same footing on which they will be competing. We now have two beautifully footed arenas for competition and a warm up arena that is uneven, drains poorly, and is of a different material than that of the competition arenas.

Our goal is to install the same excellent, all-weather footing in the Warm-Up Arena for the 2012 Dressage at Devon. But we need your support.

Dressage at Devon, in conjunction with the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair Foundation, is embarking on a joint effort to raise the funds necessary to excavate, improve the drainage, and replace the existing footing with the same euro-felt about which competitors around the world have raved. The improvements made here will take this historic facility one step closer to being an international-caliber facility, attracting competitors of the highest quality from all over the USA and the world.

Top competitors agree.

“Dressage at Devon has always been a wonderful event, with excellent facilities and strict security that makes the rider’s experience a great one. Their dedication to improving the facility is obvious at every show. This campaign will be critical for the future of Dressage at Devon and I, for one, want to help make it happen,” said Catherine Haddad–Staller, FEI Competitor and winner of the 2010 Grand Prix Freestyle at Dressage at Devon.

Dressage at Devon is giving the first $25,000 of the estimated $300,000 it will take to bring this vision to life. We ask that you show your support by giving what you can to the effort. All contributions are tax deductible and go directly into the Arena Fund which can only be used for the warm-up footing.

Time is of the essence. In order for the footing to be in place for the 2012 show season, excavation will need to be started in late winter. Please don’t hesitate - help at any level will support our sport and our show.
